George J Male

George J Male served in Company L of the 1st West Virignia Cavalry from March 28, 1865 until the regiment was mustered out of service at the end of the war on July 8, 1865. He enlisted as a substitute for Meigs Jackson, an attorney in the Clarksburg, West Virginia area. During his service, he was stationed at a remount camp near Pleasant Valley, Maryland. The conditions at this camp were not great, and it lacked many necessities of the time, including a quality field hospital.

George received a pension for total disability from June 25, 1885 until his death on November 25, 1927. He stated he had contracted a severe cold while serving in the Army which turned into reheumatism and disease of the lungs.
